Storyboard

A storyboard is a visual tool used in the planning of creative projects such as films, animations, and video games. It is essentially a sequence of illustrations or images, arranged in a specific order to depict a narrative or story. Storyboards can be used to convey ideas, establish a visual style, and help with the coordination of production.

In film and video production, storyboards are typically used to plan out the shots and scenes of a project before actual filming begins. They can help directors and producers visualise how a scene will look and plan for camera angles, lighting, and other technical aspects. Storyboards can also be useful in pre-production meetings, allowing different members of the team to discuss and refine the visual style and narrative of the project.

In animation, storyboards are used to create a blueprint for the final product. Animators can use them to plan out the timing of actions and movements, as well as to ensure consistency in character design and backgrounds. Storyboards can also be used to create animatics, which are rough animated versions of a project that can be used for testing and preview purposes.

You can make storyboards by hand or with digital tools. In hand-drawn storyboards, the artist typically sketches out each frame and frequently includes additional notes or instructions. Digital storyboards can be created using a range of software, allowing artists to create more detailed and polished images.
